The Aligned Season of Singleness: No More Chasing, Just Trusting

The Aligned Season of Singleness: No More Chasing, Just Trusting

Purpose is important. Some of us grew up in homes or cultures that indoctrinated us to believe: “First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby… as quickly as possible.”

Indeed, God created marriage. He created it in the Garden of Eden. He saw a need in Adam and filled it with Eve. Then He gave the command to “be fruitful and multiply.” However, God’s main purpose and intention for mankind has always been a relationship with Himself.

In Biblical times, marriage was often necessary for survival. The loss of a spouse could be detrimental to life. Despite the time we live in, despite the expectations of others, and despite our culture, the timeline of our lives may or may not “make sense.” This begs the question: How do we align ourselves with purpose despite our relationship status?

In previous segments, we addressed how to stay rooted and grounded in our God-given identity. In this final segment, we will address the purpose we are given.

Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Are you exhausted from all the striving in this season? Going on painful setups. Getting ghosted. Constantly feeling frustrated, disappointed, and burnt out? Dating fatigue is real. Focusing on what we don’t have—or falling into envy over what others do have—can lead to anxiety and depression. You might find yourself completely burnt out.

Is this you, my friend?

I’m sorry. I’m with you. Take a moment if you need to acknowledge it.

Ready for some hope?

There is freedom in alignment.

It’s time to go back to the Word. It’s time to realign yourself. I don’t know the story of your salvation, but think back to when you were newly saved or in a season of spiritual growth. Do you remember how much peace and joy you felt? Do you remember the awe of discovering the depth of God’s love? If those revelations feel distant or lost, it’s time for intentional realignment.

Matthew shows us exactly what to focus on. Look up Matthew 6. What color are those words? Red. Jesus has so much to say to you in this chapter. I urge you to read it—daily if needed, or even multiple times a day.

Remember who is holding the bow and guiding your trajectory in this life. The One who cares for the smallest flower and the clothes on your back. He isn’t pacing Heaven over your future. He saw it before time began.

The most important thing you can do in this season is work on your alignment. Seeking God is the most important investment of your time. Alignment affects every relationship in your life. An aligned believer is a fruit-bearing believer—and that fruit is what another godly person will be looking for when seeking marriage.

We have to stop viewing singleness as a delay. God’s promised provision supplies all the direction, purpose, and peace you need. The old saying “trust the process” applies to our journey on Earth. Marriage isn’t a goal to achieve; it’s a calling—a season in your story.

Reflective Challenges for the Week

Ask yourself some hard questions:

  • Do I feel burnt out or discouraged right now?

  • What am I striving for?

  • What is at the root of my current goals?

Then take these steps:

  • Admit if you’ve fallen out of alignment

  • Confess it to Christ

  • Ask Him for help to realign

  • Seek support and accountability

  • Make small changes to your daily rhythm and routine

  • Center your life around God’s presence

  • Daily lay your desire for control on the altar

  • Ditch the timeline

I pray that Matthew 6 becomes a salve for your wounds and strength for your heart. Keep walking in God’s purpose and seek Him with every ounce of strength you have.

Reflection Question for This Week:
What would it look like to trust God with everything else if I truly sought Him first?
